The Sleepy Whale opened in late July at 100 E. Camelback Road, Suite 160, pairing a craft beer bar with barbecue and bar food. Phoenix New Times named it one of the most exciting new restaurants now open in the city.

Julia Child: A Recipe for Life runs June 20 through September 20, 2026 in the Freeman Gallery on Level 1 of Arizona Science Center. The exhibition traces Child's path from Paris to her cookbook and television show, and includes 124 historical images, 28 period objects, 18 kitchen tools, a replica French Chef studio and a vintage camera station. The Science Center is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kids Day at PhxArt lands Saturday, August 8 at Phoenix Art Museum with interactive art making and live performances. It is one of several indoor options this weekend: the Diamondbacks host the Dodgers at Chase Field Friday through Sunday, the U.S. Gymnastics Championships run Friday through Sunday at Mortgage Matchup Center, and First Friday Art Walk covers more than 70 galleries and venues Friday from 6 to 10 p.m.

Harry & Izzy's, an American grill from the team behind the historic St. Elmo Steak House in Indianapolis, is set to open in August at 12770 N. Tatum Blvd. Phoenix New Times reports the restaurant runs 8,300 square feet with an expansive bar and a patio overlooking the park. The menu features the shrimp cocktail the St. Elmo team is known for, along with steaks, seafood, salads and sandwiches. No exact opening date has been announced.

What Now Phoenix reports PRESS Coffee opens its 20th Valley location on Aug. 8 inside Sprouts' new corporate headquarters at 20700 N. 56th Street in north Phoenix. The 700-square-foot cafe seats 18 and is open to the public. During the Aug. 8 and Aug. 9 grand opening, the first 20 guests each day get a $5 PRESS gift card.
