Saguaros in Sunset is a ranger-led sunset hike at White Tank Mountain Regional Park on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Registration is required and the group is capped at 30. Earlier that day, from noon to 2 p.m., the Nature Center's Discovery Station digs into skulls, bones, furs and scales, and you don't need to register for that one.

White Tank Mountain Regional Park, 20304 W. White Tank Mountain Road, hosts a Bird Walk with Tom Locascio on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 6 to 9:30 a.m. The morning walk ends with an informational program in the Nature Center. Registration is required and it is limited to 12 people.

Ranger Derik reads Sonoran Desert wildlife stories in the Nature Center classroom at White Tank Mountain Regional Park on Saturday, Sept. 26, with sessions at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Each reading is followed by a hands-on look at local animal skulls and pelts, and kids can pick up a Junior Ranger book on the way out. No registration needed; park entry fees apply.
The White Tank Mountains Conservancy's next litter pick-up is Saturday, October 10, 9 to 11 a.m. at White Tank Mountain Regional Park, 20304 W. White Tank Mountain Road; meet at 8:45 a.m. in the Nature Center and library parking lot. The following one is November 14 at the Victory Steps at Verrado in Buckeye, meeting at the base of the steps.

White Tank Mountain Regional Park stacks three programs into two days next week, per the Maricopa County Parks calendar. Monday, Sept. 21 at 12:30 p.m., Ranger Jacque leads an America 250 Lunch n' Learn on the saguaro in the air-conditioned Nature Center classroom. Monday evening at 6, Saguaros in Sunset is a two-mile out-and-back on the mostly level Waddell trail that starts in daylight and returns after dark, so bring a flashlight; registration is required and it is capped at 20. Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7 a.m., Ranger Derik's Morning Cactus Hike covers three miles on the Grey Fox trail and talks through which desert fruits and flowers you can actually harvest; registration required, capped at 30. Park entry is $10 per vehicle.

Maricopa County Parks closed the Trailhead Staging Area at White Tank Mountain Regional Park from April 13 through Sept. 30 for a construction project that expands the parking footprint, partially paves it, adds a restroom with flush toilets and moves the entrance to line up with Waterfall Canyon Road. Trails that start there stay open but are not reachable from that lot during the work; the park's closure map shows the exact points, and the Nature Center takes questions at 602-506-2930 ext. 5.

White Tank Mountain Regional Park hosts Butterfly Monitoring from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 19 at Parking Area 4, part of the Parks for Pollinators Bioblitz: learn to identify butterflies while logging population data for Maricopa County. Ages 18 and up (13 and up with a parent), bring water, a hat and closed-toe shoes, register at signup.com. Then Ranger Derik leads a 3-mile Morning Cactus Hike on the Grey Fox trail at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, capped at 30; call (602) 506-2930 ext. 5 by Sept. 21.

Maricopa County Parks says county residents get a buy one, get one camping offer at White Tank Mountain Regional Park from Sept. 18 through Oct. 31. The park's September calendar also lists Butterfly Monitoring and a Discovery Station on Saturday, Sept. 19, an America 250 Lunch n' Learn on the saguaro on Sept. 21, and a Saguaros in Sunset walk the same evening that requires registration and is capped at 20 people. The annual fire ban runs through Sept. 30.

ERMCO is building a 566,121-square-foot distribution transformer plant, including 4,070 square feet of office, at 15784 West Hatcher Road in Waddell. The investment will create more than 500 jobs in engineering, skilled trades and operational support. The facility is expected to be operational in 2027, with foundational work beginning in 2026. It is the first time ERMCO has expanded manufacturing west of the Mississippi River.

Maricopa County Parks lists four programs at White Tank Mountain Regional Park in the first week of September: Discovery Station and Sunsets and Saguaro on Sept. 3, an Evening Fitness Hike on Sept. 4, Hohokam Masters of the Desert on Sept. 5 and a Desert Edible Plants Hike on Sept. 6. Registration is required and spots are capped at 20 to 30 people. The park is open 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through Oct. 31.

A ranger-led stargazing program runs Thursday, Aug. 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. at White Tank Mountain Regional Park, 20304 W. White Tank Mountain Road. The county lists a 40-person registration limit and says the program will include a partial lunar eclipse.
