Apache Junction's piece of a 336-mile canal trail is taking shape

A path is being designed along the east side of the Central Arizona Project canal in Apache Junction as part of a 336-mile nonmotorized, multiuse trail corridor, the Apache Junction Independent reports. Parks Superintendent Dave Butler told the parks and recreation commission Sept. 2 that the city's portion runs 6 to 7 miles and, unlike most straight-shot segments, includes a loop of just over a mile, with a trailhead off Baseline that gets a ramada, parking and a hitching post for horses. The earliest construction might be 2028.
