Bullard Ave., fills with floating pumpkins Friday, Oct. 16, 5 to 8 p.m. Swim out, choose one from the floating patch and take it home to decorate, with games and a photo booth on deck. The Arizona Fall League returns Oct. 3, and the Surprise Saguaros open at home Sunday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. against the Salt River Rafters, then host the Glendale Desert Dogs Monday, Oct. 5 at 6:30 p.m. and the Peoria Javelinas Friday, Oct. 9 at 1:30 p.m. The league runs 30 games per team through Nov. 14. The Saguaros roster draws prospects from the Royals, Rangers, Guardians, Mets and Phillies. It is the cheapest way in the Valley to watch future big leaguers up close.

Surprise Police and Fire-Medical host G.A.I.N. Night, short for Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods, on Saturday, October 17, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Mark Coronado Park, 15960 N. Bullard Ave. It is free, with trick-or-treating, a gaming trailer, laser tag, music, bounce houses and public safety displays; food and drinks are for sale. The Salvation Army collects non-perishable food, and a donation enters you in a prize raffle. G.A.I.N. started in 1998 as Arizona's cooler-weather answer to National Night Out.

Surprise Fiesta Grande returns to Mark Coronado Park on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 5 to 10 p.m., per the city calendar. The city bills it as an evening celebrating Hispanic culture, community and tradition, with authentic Mexican food, live music and folklorico dancing, a car show, lucha libre wrestling, pinatas, a petting zoo, inflatables and activities for all ages. The park is at 15960 N. Bullard Ave. The event is sponsored by Felix Construction. Six days later the city runs Pumpkin Splash at the Surprise Aquatic Center, 5 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 16, a swim among floating pumpkins with one to decorate and take home.

Developer SimonCRE announced Sept. 15 that The Cheesecake Factory will open at Village at Prasada near Loop 303 and Waddell Road, with an expected opening in late 2027, ABC15 reports. The restaurant takes about 7,500 square feet in an expansion that also adds a splash pad, new restaurant row signage and another 21,100 square feet of shop and restaurant space at Prasada Parkway and Alexandria Way. Economic Development Director Jeanine Jerkovic called it a sweet win: residents have named The Cheesecake Factory the restaurant they want most in city surveys for the past five years.

The West Valley Symphony's 2026-27 season opens Oct. 18 with The Music of Star Wars, an interactive John Williams program with live musical trivia, the Surprise Independent reported Sept. 14. Six programs follow through March 21, including Beethoven's Eighth in November, Holiday Pops Dec. 6, Handel's Messiah Part I on Dec. 8, Mahler's Titan Jan. 10 and a Judy Garland tribute to close. For the first time the orchestra splits venues: two programs stay at its longtime home, the Vista Center for the Arts at 15660 N. Parkview Place in Surprise, and four go to the new 750-seat Hilltop Theatre in Litchfield Park, opening Oct. 1. Tickets are advance-only at wvsaz.org.

Surprise is opening Spark Surprise, an innovation hub at the Elm Street development in City Center that connects entrepreneurs with peers, marketing support, financial literacy training, AI tools and help navigating permits, ABC15 reports, with a grand opening planned for October. A grand opening market with local vendors is listed for Thursday, Oct. 1 at Elm Street on Eventeny.
Maricopa County and the City of Surprise celebrated the grand opening of the Surprise Community & Resource Center on Sept. 3. The 35,000-square-foot building brings library services, workforce development, health and wellness programs, housing and benefit assistance, veteran and senior services, after-school and summer youth programs and three Head Start classrooms under one roof, consolidating services that used to sit in three separate facilities. The $27 million project combined $18 million in county ARPA funds with city contributions. Mayor Kevin Sartor said everyone who walks through the doors "will find the high-quality services, resources, and support they need." Hours and the address were not in the release, so check the city site.

The Desert Fall Festival runs Sept. 25 through Nov. 1, 2026 at 14470 W. Tierra Buena Ln. in Surprise, with more than 20 attractions including a roller rink, a 40-foot zipline, a 90-foot slide, axe throwing, archery, an apple cannon and a pumpkin maze. The Surprise Community Resource Center holds its ribbon cutting Sept. 3 at 10 a.m., followed by an open house at 11 a.m., at 12641 W. Santa Fe Dr. in the Original Town Site at Hollyhock Street. The 35,000-square-foot building unites what were once separate homes for the city's senior center, resource center and Hollyhock Library, and adds health and wellness programs, Head Start classrooms, workforce development, housing assistance, veteran services and after-school youth programs. It serves the whole Northwest Valley.
