Gathered Grounds plans its first cafe at Central and Camelback

Family-run mobile coffee business Gathered Grounds is opening its first permanent cafe at 4 W. Camelback Road, in the former Dutch Bros at Central Avenue, What Now Phoenix reports. Plans call for a two-week soft opening in January 2027 before a grand opening date is announced. Expect local coffee, ceremonial matcha, house-made syrups, breakfast burritos, soft serve and affogatos, with a 1,000-square-foot covered patio.

Brick Road Coffee brings its third cafe to Melrose in mid-October

Brick Road Coffee, which opened on Rural Road in Tempe in 2021 and later added a Mesa cafe and its own roastery, is opening its third Valley shop in the Melrose District, Phoenix New Times reports. The 600-square-foot cafe takes over the former Window Coffee Bar space inside The Royale, the mid-century modern plaza, and is set to open in mid-October.

The Phoenix Greek Festival turns 65 on Oct. 16 to 18

The Phoenix Greek Festival marks 65 years Oct. 16 to 18 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1973 E. Maryland Ave. Expect gyros, pastitsio, moussaka, loukoumades and handmade pastries, hourly youth folk dancing, cathedral tours, a marketplace and a kids zone. Chef Vivid "Gabby" Chu, who built a following with LeDu Thai, opens Homme Thai Supper Club in Phoenix on Oct. 8, AZ Big Media reports. It's a fine-casual Thai supper club and bar built on her family recipes and Southern Thai cooking, with shareable plates like Kua Kling and Gaeng Khua, natural wines and a cocktail list called Things From Home. Bistecca & Bones brings a flaming 40-ounce porterhouse to High Street

Square One Concepts, the group behind Bourbon & Bones, plans Bistecca & Bones, an Italian chophouse at High Street at City North near 56th Street and Deer Valley Drive, KTAR reports. The signature is a 40-ounce Bistecca Florentina served flaming and sliced tableside, alongside house-made pastas, a 700-square-foot patio and a 100-guest private dining room. Opening is planned for spring 2027.

Sky Harbor plans its first new terminal since 1990, with American

American Airlines will be the primary carrier for Phoenix Sky Harbor's new West Terminal, the airport's first new terminal since Terminal 4 opened in 1990, AZ Big Media reports. Construction could begin in late 2029 with an opening in late 2033, adding room for more wide-body aircraft and new premium spaces. Gate count and design are still being determined, and no local tax dollars will be used.

DH Farms' Harvest Nights and its giant scarecrow maze open Sept. 30

Harvest Nights at DH Farms, 2209 N. 99th Ave., runs Sept. 30 to Nov. 1, Wednesday through Sunday from 5 to 10 p.m. The farm lists a 7.5-acre scarecrow maze, an illuminated pumpkin trail, a pumpkin patch, a kids' straw bale maze, Highland cows and a fall market. Tickets are $25 plus tax, kids under 2 are free, and parking is free, per DH Farms.

DiMaggio's Italian opens a second spot at Uptown Plaza in late October

DiMaggio's Italian Restaurant is targeting late October for its second location at Uptown Plaza, 100 E. Camelback Road, with a private dining room that has its own entrance. Owners Brandon and Michele Gioffre started out selling Italian food at the Uptown Phoenix Farmers Market in 2021 and opened their Scottsdale restaurant in 2022. They still run the Saturday farmers market stand.

Mesquite Fresh Street Mex is opening its 11th Valley spot in Laveen

Mesquite Fresh Street Mex is bringing its 11th metro Phoenix location to 5535 W. Baseline Road in Laveen this fall. The new spot adds a drive-thru, a dedicated grab-and-go pickup window and a 900-square-foot patio. The brand says the grand opening will come with giveaways and community festivities. Two years after a fire, Cocina Madrigal is coming back in late October

Chef Leo Madrigal's family restaurant at 1530 E. Wood St. in South Phoenix closed indefinitely after a fire, and the family kept cooking out of a food trailer from a church down the block. After two years of construction delays, Phoenix New Times reports the award-winning restaurant returns in late October with a fresh look, upgraded bathrooms and a newly repaved lot. The enchiladas, tacos and charred romaine salad stay. Leo is adding a shrimp tostada and a chicken relleno.

Buck & Rider's team is opening a fish shop on Camelback in December

B&R Fish Shop is headed to 4343 E. Camelback Road, Suite 400, and Hi Noon Hospitality's CEO told What Now Phoenix the team hopes to open in December. A floor plan filed with its beer-and-wine license application labels the roughly 3,500-square-foot project Fish Market Camelback and shows a dining area, kitchen, service counter, sushi case and beer and wine retail displays, with no patio or drive-thru. Hi Noon runs Buck & Rider, whose original restaurant is nearby, plus locations in North Scottsdale and Gilbert.

Sky Harbor is adding seven local restaurants to Terminal 4

Phoenix Sky Harbor is adding seven Valley-born food and drink options beyond the Terminal 4 security checkpoints between late 2026 and the end of 2027, KTAR reports: Cactus & Cow Burger Bar, Greenwood Brewing, Ingo's Tasty Food, The Farm at South Mountain, Collins Small Batch Kitchen, The Macintosh and Chef Joey Maggiore's The Mexicano. The Farm at South Mountain combines four concepts in its space, including Morning Glory Cafe for breakfast. Panera Bread and Gong Cha are also coming to the pre-security side of Terminal 4. The airport says its 15 locally based concessions generated $89 million in revenue last year.

PRESS Coffee opens on Camelback Oct. 17 with a two-day party

PRESS Coffee, the Phoenix-based roaster, will celebrate the grand opening of its Camelback Corridor cafe on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17 and 18, with complimentary treats, giveaways and fall activations both days, What Now Phoenix reports. The 2,029-square-foot cafe at 3133 E. Camelback Road seats 38 inside and 48 outside, making it one of the roaster's largest openings this year, and it is the company's 23rd location. A food truck and an on-site DJ run both days, the pumpkin spice lineup launches that weekend, and the first 20 guests each day get a $5 gift card. The space, designed with Dalke Design Group, has laptop-friendly counters and a bookable conference room.

Chelsea's Kitchen roasts Hatch chiles for its 10th festival Sept. 26

Chelsea's Kitchen holds its 10th annual Hatch Green Chile Festival on Saturday, Sept. 26, starting at 10 a.m. at 5040 N. 40th St. in Arcadia, just north of Camelback Road, the Arizona Digital Free Press reports. Young Guns Produce of Hatch, New Mexico, roasts chiles on site, sold by the bag or pre-ordered. The special menu runs from green chile queso and French dip sliders to gluten-free green chile cornbread, crispy mulitas and the restaurant's signature green chile stew, with prickly pear sorbet from Grateful Spoon, mezcal margaritas, Spanish guitar and face painting for kids.

Mr. Meats is bringing its carniceria and tacos to west Phoenix

Mr. Meats Carniceria & Tacos has posted coming-soon banners for a location near 43rd Avenue and Roosevelt Street, What Now Phoenix reported Sept. 11. Owner Edgar Guerrero runs the existing Mr. Meats Carniceria & Market at 1933 E. University Drive in Mesa, where the prepared-food counter turns out tacos, burritos and carnitas. No exact address or opening date has been released, and the shop has not said whether the Phoenix store will carry the Mesa location's groceries and bakery.

Eggbred makes its Arizona debut on McDowell Road in Phoenix

Arizona's first dog cafe is open on Virginia Ave. in Phoenix

Stray Cafe opened in August at 710 E. Virginia Ave., and Copper Courier calls it Arizona's first dog cafe: guests reserve an hour to hang out with adoptable dogs from Rockstar Rescue while they have a drink. It made the paper's Sept. 10 list of 28 new metro Phoenix restaurants, cafes and bars, alongside Tipsy Scoop's alcohol-infused ice cream downtown at 355 N. Fall Arizona Restaurant Week runs Sept. 18 to 27

Fall Arizona Restaurant Week returns Friday, Sept. 18 through Sunday, Sept. 27, per the Arizona Restaurant Association's listing in the Daily Independent calendar. Participating restaurants serve three-course menus at $33, $44 or $55, and the association says more than 200 restaurants around the state signed up, with many first-time participants. El Grito fills downtown Phoenix Saturday, with fireworks

The City of Phoenix El Grito Celebration runs Saturday, Sept. 12 from 4 to 11 p.m. at 4th Avenue and Washington Street downtown. The lineup includes La Original Banda Maguey, Banda Mach, Mariachi Continental Azteca and Fiesta Mexicana Dance Company, with a 60-member Banda de Guerra Bomberos Nogales leading the El Grito ceremony at 8:15 p.m. and a fireworks show over the skyline after. The city lists nearly 100 vendor booths of Mexican food, artisans and community groups, plus family activities and lucha libre. Kids 12 and under get in free; general admission tickets are sold at elgritophoenix.com.

Downtown Phoenix gets a 236-room hotel and spa Sept. 16

Denu Hotel & Spa opens Sept. 16, 2026 in a 17-story tower at 1 East Adams Street. Hoodline describes it as downtown Phoenix's first luxury hotel with a full-service spa. The building holds 236 rooms, including 15 guest suites and one signature penthouse. Dining is built in: Sarten Kitchen & Bar is an all-day Sonoran restaurant where dishes are shaped by fire, smoke, cast iron or embers, there is a ground-floor cocktail lounge, and Nidos Rooftop Bar sits on the 17th floor next to the pool.
