Maricopa's CLA (Connect, Love, Advocate) Autism Club hosts its first Gentle Halloween Trunk or Treat on Oct. 17, 3 to 7 p.m., at Molly's House of Little Feet, InMaricopa reports. It's built to be low stim: no horns, flashing lights or loud music, plus sensory tables with kinetic sand and fidgets, goodie bags, food vendors and hour-by-hour visitor limits so families can take their time.

The resident-led 347 Facts Committee took home an Arizona Transportation Partnering Excellence Award at the Arizona Conference on Roads and Streets in Tucson, InMaricopa reports. The group rallied residents to send thousands of emails to lawmakers, which helped secure about $140 million for SR 347 improvements and a spot on ADOT's five-year construction plan. Initial work began in June.

More than 100 Z sports cars drove through Maricopa on Saturday, Sept. 26, to Nissan's Arizona Testing Center for ZCON 2026, the international Z-car convention, InMaricopa reports. Clubs from across the country and abroad ran autocross, held a car show and took parade laps on the proving grounds' oval. "It was pretty cool seeing that many Z's come through our community," a Nissan engineer told InMaricopa.

The Taco Spot opens softly at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at 44600 W. Smith-Enke Road, Suite 101, InMaricopa reports. Birria is the signature. Hours run 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Owner Emmanuel Flores told InMaricopa he expects a grand opening in about a month with giveaways and prizes.

Sakura Asian Kitchen is taking over the former Copa Kitchen space at 20924 N. John Wayne Parkway and plans to open in mid-October, InMaricopa reports. The quick-serve spot will focus on sushi, teriyaki bowls, noodles and tuna poke, with a ramen bar planned later.

Father and son Parker and Danny Hunsaker are opening Back Nine Golf at 41724 W. Smith-Enke Road, an indoor simulator spot open 24/7 with hourly and membership options. Simulators are expected in by the end of October, with a soft launch ahead of a mid-November grand opening.

Maricopa's new pickleball and volleyball courts at Copper Sky are ready, and the city is making a week of it. The ribbon cutting is Tuesday morning, Sept. 22, then New Courts on the Block starts at 6 p.m. that night: a pickleball round robin (sign up on ActiveNet the day before or in person at 6), sand volleyball, 80s music and a costume contest with prizes for best throwback look. Saturday, Sept. 26 is Discover Pickleball, a free morning of beginner clinics, open play, skills challenges and a raffle of 12 paddles donated by USA Pickleball ambassadors. No paddle and no experience needed, the city says.

InMaricopa reports the former Copa Kitchen at 20924 N. John Wayne Parkway, at Maricopa Fiesta Drive, could become Sakura Asian Kitchen. A sign plan filed with the city shows a nine-foot illuminated sign for the space, and Cobblestone Farms resident Steve Hwang registered Sakura Restaurant Group on July 14. Copa Kitchen closed in August, and its former owner had hinted the spot would turn into a sushi and Korean concept. No opening date has been announced.

Maricopa's new indoor sports building has a date. InMaricopa reports The Fieldhouse at Copper Sky, 17985 W. Greythorn Drive, holds its grand opening Saturday, October 10, from 9 a.m. to noon, free, with a ribbon cutting, sports activities, food trucks, professional wrestling, arts and crafts and an inflatable play area. The 42,000-square-foot building holds four basketball courts, six volleyball courts and 12 pickleball courts, though not all can run at once. The city proposed it in 2024 as a $16.2 million project and broke ground in June 2025 because Copper Sky's existing courts kept booking up.

Monday night bingo at Duke's Roadhouse is a fundraiser in disguise. The weekly game is run by the nonprofit Maricopa Moose, which donates all bingo proceeds to a local charity the committee votes on each month, InMaricopa reports, and Duke's matches every dollar, a tradition the restaurant offered when it agreed to host. The most recent picks, the Maricopa Arts Council and Maricopa Mustangs Special Olympics, took home more than $1,700 combined at the Sept. 14 game. Since last October the nights have raised more than $11,500 counting the match. Maricopa Mustangs is in its second season and now has more than 70 athletes from age 8 to 56.

InMaricopa's September rundown of every restaurant in the pipeline puts five names under construction at Legacy on Porter, the retail center rising east of Walmart at 17571 N. Porter Road: a second Chipotle that broke ground in late May, Jersey Mike's Subs, Texas tea chain HTeaO, the city's first Swig and the 1,500-square-foot Orlie's Taproom with a garage door onto its patio. Shell construction for Chipotle and Jersey Mike's should wrap by the start of 2027, with Chipotle serving by mid-2027 and Orlie's planned for mid-2027. Across town, Someburros is on track for a fall opening on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and a freestanding Starbucks next door is estimated for the end of the year.

InMaricopa published the first renderings and branding Sept. 9 for MADCAPS, a two-story indoor-outdoor family entertainment center planned on 7.2 acres just west of Copper Sky Regional Park at John Wayne Parkway and Martin Luther King Boulevard. Developer Scott Bartle, a former Maricopa resident who bought the land in November 2025, is pitching duckpin bowling, miniature golf, go-karts, arcade games, a mixed-reality arena and dining. The project is in planning and design; no opening date has been announced.
Elicia Gabriela Estrada imported a truck from Japan, painted it pink, lined it with shelves and launched Graciela's Mobile Books in May, InMaricopa reports. It carries new and used English, Spanish and bilingual books from publishers, indie authors and Marketplace finds, plus a free book box, and it rolls up to the Copa Farmers Market and Maricopa Night Market. Kids Day Maricopa returns Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Maricopa Wells Middle School, 45725 W. Honeycutt Ave. Admission is free and so is parking, with doors opening at 9:30 a.m. The day is built around health, crime prevention, child safety and environmental awareness, and it runs six hours for all ages.

Orlie's Taproom is planned for the Legacy at Porter retail center near Porter and Applegate roads, taking roughly 1,500 square feet. Founder Jason Martin, who named it for his son Orlie, plans 30 rotating taps, curated wines, a dog-friendly patio and a space built for community. Construction timelines are still being finalized as design continues, and the developer hopes to break ground within the next few months. No opening date has been announced.

Someburros has signed for 42618 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway, at the northwest corner of Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and Stonegate Road, in the Stonegate retail center. The Arizona family chain announced it alongside new Surprise and Peoria locations. No opening date has been announced for the Maricopa restaurant.

InMaricopa reports Taco Spot, a Chandler based birria-forward franchise, and Antojitos LindaMar are moving into 44600 W. Smith-Enke Road in the old Barro's Pizza space. Owners Emmanuel Flores and Cristina Ruiz were hoping for an opening party at the end of August, and no set opening date had been announced when the story ran.

InMaricopa reports Street Queen Tacos, the Casa Grande taco spot, has opened its second location in Maricopa, in the Cobblestone Fiesta plaza on John Wayne Parkway, taking over the space Tacos N' More used to hold. Co-owner Diego Negrete told InMaricopa on opening day that the focus is quality food, good service and the best salsa in town.
