Harvest in the Heritage District returns Friday, Sept. 25 through Sunday, Nov. 1. The centerpiece is The Great Gilbert Gourd Hunt, with “all-new immersive art experiences shaped by the whimsical imagination of renowned pumpkin artist Ray Villafane.” Fall concerts, paranormal film screenings, live pumpkin carving demos and seasonal food specials are also on the bill, with details still to come.

The Escape Game opened its first Arizona location in downtown Gilbert in late July, with five rooms: Murder with a Side of Meatballs, The Heist, The Depths, Cosmic Crisis and Ruins: Forbidden Treasure. Each is a custom-built set designed to be solved in about 60 minutes. Co-founder Jonathan Murrell called opening in Arizona “a milestone we've been looking forward to.”

A roughly 64,000-square-foot Safeway opened Aug. 6 at the northwest corner of Val Vista Drive and Germann Road, anchoring The Gilmore. The 35-acre project will hold about 200,000 square feet of retail, dining and grocery plus 300 apartments now pre-leasing.

The 18th Annual Gilbert Fine Mineral, Gem and Fossil Show runs Saturday, August 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at HD South, 10 South Gilbert Road in the Heritage District. Admission and parking are both free. Also on this month: Gilbert Has Spirit runs August 5 through 31 at the Discovery Centers, a free back-to-school celebration where you can mail a postcard at no cost.

Goldwater Brewing Co. bought 2.49 acres at 685 S. Gilbert Road for $3.8 million and plans a 7,000-square-foot brewing facility, a 2,000-square-foot taproom and a 2,500-square-foot cold storage warehouse. The site also gets a beer park with family-friendly walking paths and space for farmers markets, live music and festivals, which co-owner Dillon McClelland called a dream concept. Completion is expected in 2026. It would be Goldwater's fourth taproom, joining Scottsdale, East Mesa and South Tempe.

Fogo de Chao opened its first Gilbert location on Monday, August 3, at 2134 S. SanTan Village Parkway near SanTan Village. It is the Brazilian steakhouse brand's second Arizona restaurant, joining its Scottsdale location. For its opening week, the restaurant is donating 10% of sales to St. Anne Friends of the Needy, an organization that distributes emergency food boxes to the community.

What Now Phoenix reports The Buzzed Goat Coffee Company is opening its third Arizona location at 2795 S. Market St., Suite 110, in SanTan Village Marketplace, the former Which Wich space. The team got keys in late July and is hoping to open in September, with a full espresso bar, craft cocktails, beer, wine and small bites.

Bojangles opened its first Arizona location at 3765 S. Val Vista Drive in Gilbert. ABC15 reported the chain, known for its buttermilk biscuits and sweet tea, set the opening for Monday, July 20 at 5 a.m. after pushing the original date back by a week.
The 35-acre mixed-use development at the northwest corner of Val Vista Drive and Germann Road, just off Loop 202, expects retailers to begin opening in the latter half of 2026.

Three concepts from Flagship Restaurant Group are headed to the 10-acre Heritage Park development: Ghost Donkey, the NYC Mexican bar known for loaded nachos and churros; Palma, a happy-hour-forward eatery with brunch and sushi; and Blue Sushi Sake Grill, their 3rd Arizona location. First openings land in 2026, full build-out by March 2027.
